Police Debunk Report of Planning to Arrest, Inject Melaye to Death

Image
The police have debunked the report that it plans to arrest and inject to death the senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District in the National Assembly Dino Melaye. The police, which described the claim by the senator as mischievous, malicious and hateful among others however, advised Melaye to open up if he had committed any crime that would warrant the police to arrest him rather than “whipping up sentiments to distract the public”. “The attention of the Nigeria Police Force has been drawn to a statement in some sections of the media credited to a serving Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, representing Kogi West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Dino Melaye, captioned ‘IG plans to arrest me, inject me to death’. “The Force is categorically stating that the statement is mischievous, malicious, capable of misleading the public and laughable, there was no such order from the Inspector General of Police or any plan by the Force to arrest S

Don’t Blame Nigeria for Your Failure to Fight Corruption, Atiku Tells Buhari

Image
The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has told President Muhammadu Buhari not to blame the Nigerian system for his failure to fight corruption, but himself. The president had on Tuesday blamed his inability to fight corruption on the Nigerian system, when the members of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) community paid him homage. But in his reaction, Atiku said that the problem with Buhari’s anti-corruption war is not the system, but the president himself. According to him, “My immediate response to this is to commend President Buhari for admitting that he has failed in fighting corruption. The president has just corroborated Transparency International, whose latest Corruption Perception Index (CPI) shows that Nigeria is more corrupt today than it was under the previous administration, having moved 12 places backwards in the CPI, from 136 in 2014 to 148 this year.” The former vice-president stressed that nothing in the

Ogbeh: No Politician Can Fix Nigeria’s Economic Problems within a Short Time

Image
The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, has said given the extent of damage already inflicted on the economy by past administrations, no politician currently vying for the seat of power has what it takes to return the economy to the path of growth within a short period. He said Nigerians should interrogate politicians who go on air promising wonders to make things work again under the current economic realities. The minister said with the current interest and exchange rates regime, coupled with other social limitations, especially the sheer reluctance by the commercial banks to extend credit to the real sector to stimulate growth, politicians would be making empty promises should they think they can address the myriad economic problems facing the nation overnight. Ogbeh, who spoke at a recent public function, decried a situation where the country relies on importation of almost everything, stressing that unless local production capacity is stren
